$easonal Eat$: October, boo.

Change of formula. Since there are no websites good enough for me (and thus, you) I am beginning a new habit for y'all. First Saturday of the month I am going to frequent the farmers market to see whats up in the world of seasonal foods. (all photos taken by yours truly)

Veggies:

SUMMER SQUASH:::
  • zuchinni
  • yellow zuchinni
  • Patty Pan- stubby yellow squash (the ones that look like alien ships),
  • Scallopini - like Patty Pan, but green.
  • Yellow Crookneck- an apple bottom squash, yellow.
  • Globe
-Red Orrach Greens
-Heirloom Tomatoes
-Early Girl Tomatoes

-SHELLING BEANS


  • English Butter
  • Cranberry
  • Fava
  • Yellow Wax
  • Blue Lake (these are the Thanksgiving beans, but the farmer said they're actually NOT in season when turkey day rolls around... thanks a lot monoculture!)
-Brussels Sprouts
-Spanish Onions

Frutas:

APPLES:: --> these varieties are extremely seasonal and unique. Translation: You won't be findin them in whole foods, holler!
  • Goldent Russert

  • Spizenburg (this was the last week, sorry!)

-Grapes!! (natures snack food)
  • Concord (ultra yum)
  • Fantasy
  • Italian Muscat (like the dessert wine, yum!)
