With rappers being encouraged to use the word "president" instead of n**** in their lyrics, and Barack Obama taking over the white house, some people choose to neglect progress, and instead chooses to be the Debbie of society. The New York Post released this cartoon, implying Obama as the monkey. Associating African-Americans with monkey's has as long and uncomfortable history in this country, validated by the popularity of Blackface and Minstrel Shows of the 19th century stretching as far into the mid 20th. With the giant step forward America took with Obama's victory, this cartoon might symbolize two unfortunate steps back.
