"Come out, come out, wherever you are..."

Words spoken by Harvey Milk to encourage his gay counterparts to live openly, freely, and proudly as a gay individual.

The Supreme Court of California voted to uphold Prop 8 today, (LAME), restricting gay couples from marrying. The state did, however, decide to maintain the 18,000 marriages conducted prior to the November passing of the proposition. Over 100,000 households are headed by gay couples or individuals in the state of California, one fourth of which including children. Before Prop 8 was passed, CA was only the second state to allow gay marriage, under Massachusetts. Since the passing of Prop (H)8, Iowa, Connecticut, Vermont and Maine have all legalized gay marriage, and New York, New Jersey and New Hampshire are considering a bill of their own.

In CA it is easier to make an amendment to the fucking constitution than it is to raise a sales tax. Maybe that is why our constitution is over 1,000 pages long, and consists of some of the sloppiest leglisation EVER (Prop 13, the 2/3 tax vote, and now Prop 8). This has resulted CA being the bottom of the barrel for education and infrastructure, an over $1 Billion budget deficit, and and uneven distribution of civil rights.

The Courage Campaign will soon release this ad, and will introduce the "Repeal Prop 8" campaign for the 2010 election. Send them luck, and the best way to do that, is to send them a check.
