Te gusta estar solo?

Because if you're happy in your head,
then solitude is blessed,
and alone is OK.

La Tocera Farms

I visited yet another farm thanks to Camino, and it was just as majestic as the last. Annabelle rents a small plot from Star Route farms up in Bolinas, a witchy town in the the fog of Marin. Star Route Farms is an amazing operation using the organization of a corporation to keep their small plot efficient and productive. They allow the river to flood their plains which restores nutrients from the river back to the farmland - waaayyy smarter than building levee's.

La Tocera is a small farm that grows everything from heirloom onions to purple basil, even their weeds are edible (I was able to try a young radish). We toured the farms and then grubbed on a few snacks provided by Annabelle and us.

In some ways...

This was taken on Fillmore between Page and Oak Streets. Although this neighborhood is still developing, this is obviously a reaction to the overall movment towards San Francisco inching towards super-gentrification, which is when a city becomes completley gentrified; Paris and Manhattan being popular examples.

There isn't much of a bougie restaurant scene in the Lower Haight, but it is filled with independent businesses like art galleries, hair salons, and record shops which are not new additions, but have been open and operating there for years.

One of the reasons why I am so drawn to the Lower Haight and Divizadero/Hayes area (hate to call it NOPA) is that it still has a gritty developing feel. There are young people, artists, old school natives, and a certain eithnic diversity that gives these (micro)neighborhoods a genuine feeling. The small nature means you run into neighbors and friends more often than not, and for better or for worse - but for a city girl who grew up on auto-crossroads of Masonic and Geary, the warm fuzzy neighborhood community is a good thing.

La Comida

Dinner/Dessert (Pancho Villa, San Francisco)

Buffalo Burger (The Keg, Manitou Springs)

Shelling Beans (Camino, Oakland)

Someones Dinner (Alameda County Fair, Pleasanton)

"Organic" (Golden Produce, San Francisco)

Happy Birthday Julian (The Cake Gallery, San Francico)

#buyerbeware I ordered a chocolate cake with fresh strawberries with the Little Mermaid on a penis, and got a vanilla cake with strawberries with a cowgirl on a penis. At least they got the penis right.

This item is grown 7,900 miles from here (Market, Marin County)

Yay Areaaaaa

Ty Segall (San Francisco)

Recently introduced to this band, and apparently two of my homegirls are dating the band members, but that's not why I'm writing about them, however, that is what peaked my interest. ANYWAYS, the music doesn't suck, it's actually quite digestible, and even better - the fucking music video is weirdly quirky, and that always seals the deal.

Shannon and the Clams (Oakland)
Adorable.
