Bike Boxes

It took a couple months before the Bike Box along the Wiggle began to be effective. Located on Scott at Oak Streets, the Bike Box is a green space that is wedged in front of a car lane, but behind the crosswalk, intended to give bicyclists a head start ahead of of cars when the light turns green. It's actually a sophisticated tool that is also being used in places like Portland and Minneapolis/St. Paul, cities that are now far more bike friendly than SF, due to their ample support of bicycle infrastructure.

Bike Box on the Wiggle

In any event, San Francisco has decided to move forth with the Bike Box by adding a few more of these green splotches along Market Street, which in the commuting hours, is overrun with two-wheeled commuters.

In other news, Miley Cyrus is not single any more.

ChickenWings

This photo is quite delicious. The nude colors of the figure against the provocative nature of the flowers creates the perfect little visual snack.

Never Disposable [A Series]

I dropped my digital camera in the sink in November of 2010. I was shocked when I learned that electronics do not like being submerged beneath running water. Since I cannot live without the ability to document life, I have reverted back to the old school, and began buying disposable cameras.

I noticed that my picture taking habits began to change. I wasn't snapping shots of every little thing anymore - a luxury gained by having a limitless capacity to store photos on a chip. Instead, I was more selective, and only took shots of moments I wanted to remember, or images I never want to forget. Disposable cameras, my Canon AE-1, and a new 70's Nikon SLR will have to suffice my digital disappearance.

The whistling, the jolly tune, and the positive lyrics make this song quite enjoyable.

The Original: A Series.

It's been a while since I've contributed to one of my favorite series, and recently I found the perfect song to continue the project.

I call my boo Shazaam, because if I have a question about a song, he'll most likely know the artist, song title, and year it was on the radio. A couple weeks ago played a Marvin Gaye song that sounded familiar, but I was positive it wasn't Marvin who sang it, but another pop-culture icon. Curtis Jackson, better known as 50 Cent had sampled this beat for a G-Unit track, and I was determined to find which one. He, however, did not know the G-Unit song I was referring too, a shocking realization that even Shazaam can't know 'em all.

MissionBowl

Yep, La Mission is getting a six lane bowling alley. The idea of going out to a bowling alley seems so old fashioned, but the novelty is the whole point. When I was a kid, it was all about Japantown Bowl. Nestled in J-Town somewhere, it was the stinky rusty bowling alley every kid should grow up in. The Asian gangs, the vending machines, the hot pink and neon green carpeting - there was only one J-Town Bowl, but alas that one shut down, and with it a piece of SF history and my childhood. Now the only alleys we have in SF are either estranged in the Presidio or downtown at Yerba Buena (snorrrrring!). The hipster alley is gonna provide snacks, drinks, bike parking and hopefully a photo-booth. Get the details here.

Not gonna lie, would be nice to have an activity to do in the Mission that besides droppin hella coin on bougie food or pounding Jameson in a stinky dive.

HI-CHEW Nope it's not a sneeze, in fact, it is a wonderfully sweet and delicious chewy snack. The flavors are so bright, you would think you're actually eating the fruit it is flavored with.

Earthquakes and Tsunami's - ohmy!

1,300 have died, three commuter trains have gone missing, and one nuclear plant has exploded, and all I can think is: When will the next one hit SF?

I just over three years old when the Loma Prieta quake hit in '89 - I was watching Cinderella with my friend and the TV suddenly shut off, a few seconds later the entire house started shaking as two young girls tried to find a surface to hide under. After the shaking was done, we went outside to see the city in dissaray and up in flames.

Loma Prieta was a 7.1, nothing compared to the Japanese quake that is the largest ever recorded for the country, at 8.8.

I grew up with Earthquake kits, maybe its time to make another..
