Seed $ales Sprout from the Recession Soil.

Today: Urban and Suburban gardens are beginning to sprout due to tough times and tight budgets. People are growing their own food, because they cannot afford to buy in the market. That's one way to get people interested in organic food, its LESS expensive!

According to CBS news, home gardening is up 19%, which was measured by the rise of seed sales. Also, community gardens are growing in popularity, including the one located in West Oakland just below the BART tracks.

When I was a kid, I had a huge garden and backyard. We had lettuces, tomatoes, zucchini, yellow squash, pumpkins, peas, sunflowers, roses and strawberries. The zucchini's would be so big you would have thought it was subjected to radiation. I just remember being able to go to the backyard and getting enough for dinner. Can you imagine purchasing a package of seeds for about $2 and having a garden full of produce in the back? You'd be saving Jefferson's people.

The White House is supposed to be planting a vegetable garden as well, more on this later.
